Escape...and find yourself in Costa Rica with YogaYou!

Plan now for a Costa Rican retreat you will never forget! February 14 through February 19, 2009

The ranch we chose for our first yoga retreat is located in the state of Alajuela, near the town of El Castillo, Costa Rica. It is a self sustainable, organic, working ranch in the vicinity of the Arenal volcano, Arenal Lake and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The outdoor yoga studio is spacious, set beside a rushing stream, the perfect backdrop to yoga.

Planned activities include yoga, aromatherapy and meditation, kayaking and horseback riding.
Three meals a day are provided, with organic, fresh, ranch grown food in abundance.
T
he drinking water is fresh and plentiful, so no need to buy bottled water.

Base rate for retreat per person is: $460

INCLUDED IN BASE RATE: All meals, planned activities, supplies and events.
Not included: Airfare, optional drinks and transportation from the airport although carpooling will be available.

 Accommodations

Bungalows (with balcony, private bath)

Room in Bunkhouse (small room, shared bathroom)

I couldn't find a good picture, but I promise you, the rooms are very small. I have stayed in them. That is why I am not offering double occupancy in these rooms. They have two bunk beds, but the room is so small that to be comfortable you need the second bed to put your belongings.
I promise you will thank me later. :)
This is a picture of the balcony of the building.

Single Occupancy $525
Double Occupancy $350
Triple Occupancy $290

(to take advantage of multiple occupancy choose your roommates) Price is per person, total accommodation.

Single Occupancy $320
Price is per person, total accommodation.

More about the ranch:
The single hardest thing for me to accomplish while I am here is just to simply do whatever I want. Not what
I have to do for work, but just simply whatever makes me happy. Here are some of the activities when not
doing yoga that are optional for you as a guest to do.

Since it is a working farm, you can help with any of the following:

  • Chickens
  • Pigs
  • Cows (some of the babies are just adorable)
  • Be a cowboy (or girl) for a day
  • Work in the organic vegetable gardens or in the medicinal herb gardens
  • The flower gardens are immaculate, with little trails and little signs telling you what each flower and plant is.
  • View all kinds of birds (Toucans, King Fishers, Fly Catchers among others), monkeys and coatis.
  • They have an Animal Rescue and Reintegration Center
  • Several hiking trails
  • Sometimes in the evening they have some young workers that stay at the ranch that will play their guitars and sing. It is far enough away from the bunkhouse and other facilities that you only have to hear it if you want to.

Extra cost activities offered:

  • Rappelling down a waterfall (hey--we stand on our head--why can't we rappel? :)
  • Mountain Biking
  • Fishing
  • Tour a Butterfly conservatory (in El Castillo, a couple miles away) Free for small tour, extensive tour costs $12.
  • Guided night hike
  • Guided Lava ride (view the volcano at night)
  • We could take a hike down an incredibly huge waterfall (admission fee--I think $6) and we can go view the Arenal Volcano (yes it is active!).

The possibilities are endless in this fantastic paradise! I promise you that we will not want to leave! Refreshment in the soul and body that comes from allowing yourself this type of retreat is unparalled.

Spouses are welcome. But the price is the same even if they are not going to participate in yoga, because my charges are very minimal for this retreat, most of the charges are from the actual charges of the ranch for the food and activities.

I am still working to get airfare at a group rate inexpensively. You can source your own airfare if you like, though which would give you the option of spending extra time there before or after the retreat. It is looking like airfare will be around $600 per person, although I am still trying to get it for less.

The ranch can only accept a few people, because their guest accommodations are few.

Packing List will be listed on the forum closer to the trip. I will keep everyone updated on the transportation research on the forum. Check the forum for all other information regarding this trip also. Ask questions if it is not already posted.

If you’ve ever been to one of Desirée's

workshops or seen glimpses of one on YouTube, your first impression might be that she teaches in an incredibly challenging style. With the ability to demonstrate some of the most difficult postures and--even more amazingly--getting students to experience the same sequences, Desirée has a well-earned reputation for deepening even the most advanced practices. She does it with a sense of humor balanced with a quest for authenticity. What is most surprising is her ability to tap into a soft heart and vulnerable spaces to access these wonderful poses. Her unique ability to draw out that bright and shining light from within every student, no matter what level of yoga experience, is her gift to the world.
